Day in the Life

Wow, we have had a busy last few weeks! Saturday the 9th Gram and Gramps (my parents) came to visit; they came Friday night in time to see Eli before he went to bed and stayed till he went down for his afternoon nap on Saturday.

Gram and Eli reading books
His favorite right now is "That's Not My Dinosaur"

He likes to feel the parts of the book and see the bright colors.

"Did you know about this dinosaur thing?"

I have also been working on some sewing projects, one being an outfit idea I had for Abby's wedding in June. Her colors are plum and grey (the bridesmaids wearing plum and the groomsmen wearing grey suits with plum ties), so I had the great idea to make a matching tie and 'vest' outfit for Eli.

Part way through, it's a little on the big side,
but I'm not sure it will fit in June!

Super cute!

Sometimes when he is drinking his bottle (usually near the end when he's not quite so 'starving'), he will start talking and talking. It's very serious, whatever he's jabbering about. He is also working on his abdominal muscles, mostly by raising his legs and throwing them down when he is in his crib (he does it all the time, whether he's mad or not), and by raising his legs while he eats. Silly little man!

This week Eli turned 5 months old! I weighed him on Thursday at 18 pounds even! He still loves his johnny jump up, toys that make noise and he can fit in his mouth, and he has started some solid foods. We've done avocado, sweet potato and rice cereal so far. At first, he didn't know what to do with what we put in his mouth, but now he opens his mouth for the next bite and sometimes gets upset if we don't feed him as fast as he wants.

He has started noticing his hands more just this last week; the other morning I took this video, for several minutes he would just watch his hand open and close. Fascinating.

5 month pictures with Mr. Monkey!
He wasn't too thrilled with pictures today...

A Day in the Life of a Monkey (and a Boy)

"Do you see that?"

"I think... but I can't be sure..."

"Oh, yes! It IS a foot!"

"Silly me, I don't know how I forgot that!"

"What else do boys do all day?"

"Bounce!"

"What did she say?"

"Time to get out? I don't think so..."

"This is a good book..."

"It has this one page that crinkles..."

"I just gotta find it... hang on..."

"Oh, I dropped it, don't go after it, you'll just fall over.
Trust me, I know."

"This is a great toy, it doesn't rattle, but it crinkles."

"I like crinkly stuff, okay?"

"I can't believe you said you like rattles better than crinkles."
Silly boy and his monkey!  It's nap time now, so we'll see them more later...

Some of my favorite pictures from today, the first two are right before his nap when he was getting tired, but I love those eyes. And those eyebrows. And that chubby face. Pretty much the whole thing!

Jumpy and Grumpy

Eli has figured out how to spin and bounce (a little bit) in his jump-up, but he always watches me as I video him! He doesn't watch me like this unless I have my iPod camera on him!

He is also putting lots of things in his mouth, pretty much anything he is able to hang on to. But the funniest thing in this video to me, is his eyes! Watch and see how he looks from Dad to Mom to Dad.

Since he is so good at putting things in his mouth, it's the perfect time for him to hold his own bottle! Plus he has been trying to do it for a while now. :) We bought some sippy cups last week (he's not drinking from them yet) and since they are the same brand as his bottles, the handles fit just right so his little hands can hang on. He's pretty good after just a few days! I think both independence and hunger inspire him.

And just so no one is under a disillusionment that his is always happy and doesn't get fussy... proof of the grumpiness!
