Eli's First Week

Eli turned one week old yesterday! I wanted to have a post up sooner than this, but between eating, sleeping, and the loving visitors we've been blessed with, here it is!

On Tuesday the 16th I had a doctor's appointment and an ultrasound that showed everything was still going fine, but... the amniotic fluid was dropping in volume (still in the okay range, but dropping), Eli's heart rate was on the low end (still okay, but low-ish), and my blood pressure was higher that what it has been the rest of the pregnancy (not too high, but higher). Considering all the little things together, my doctor told me he would like me to deliver by the end of the week, but we could wait till next week and see how things progress if I really wanted to.

From the beginning I really didn't want to be induced, but at this point I wanted the best thing for Eli and I both, so I let them schedule the induction for Thursday.

Thursday the 18th, Josh and I packed up and went to the hospital to meet our little man.

They started my pitocin a little before 9:00 and the day seemed to fly by. For me anyway, I think Josh was a little bored at times. :) The worst thing about all of it was the medications making me feel nauseated all day, but it was all worth it when they gave us our little, screaming, red-faced man. Eli Samuel was born at 5:16 pm, 6 pounds 14 ounces and 18.5 inches long.

Our first night in the hospital
The next day, we just had fun looking at our little guy and taking some pictures! People keep asking for pictures, so here's a bunch!

His hands are so tiny!
We love to watch all the faces he makes!
We were able to go home the next evening and spend our first night at home. Every night is a little different; sometimes he sleeps well in between feedings and sometimes he is wide awake.

Monday was his first bath; he wasn't too sure about it at first, but then he settled down and figured out the warm water wasn't so bad.

Today, Eli had some tummy time with the boppy pillow... it wasn't so bad at first, but he stopped liking after about 5 minutes. He can push up with his arms and hold his head up off the pillow for a few seconds at a time. Then he snuggled with Mommy for a while to 'recover'.

Thanks for taking a look at Eli's first week! I hope this satisfies the need to see lots of pictures! :)

Starting Out, Catching Up

So to catch up, this picture is from when I was 21 weeks pregnant. Nice little bump!

This is at 23 weeks (at Falls Creek camp with the youth group).

I had some maternity pictures done a few weeks ago, so more on the bump later, this is just the starting point!

At 18 weeks, we had the first ultrasound and we found out we were having a boy! In the car on the way home, we agreed on Eli for the first name, but it wasn't until weeks later we agreed on a middle name. Eli Samuel.

Some of my sewing projects. I've been seeing things I want to make, but have never been good at sewing... until I had my sewing machine fixed! It's amazing what can happen when the machine actually works. But still, I mostly tried to stick with straight lines. :)

A few of the flannel burp cloths.
A baby sling (we'll have to wait and see how this works!).
Little baby hats! This was tricky, with CURVED lines and KNIT fabric!
A 'patch' made with leftover fabric from the blanket (below).
The flannel blanket I made this summer.
The nursery! It's all ready for Eli.
Aunt Rachel made the cute owl mobile for the crib! Thanks Aunt Rachel!

So, everything is ready, we're just waiting for him to come!
